Frustrated with Your Rehab Progress? Start Thinking Motor Control Before Strength
Many clients come to me after traditional physiotherapy has failed to fully restore them to their preferred sport or activity. The problem? Most rehab protocols focus on muscle strength without first addressing motor control—a crucial step in achieving lasting recovery.
When the nervous system perceives faulty sensory input or threat, it triggers safety mechanisms that inhibit muscle activation. If these underlying motor control issues aren't resolved first, building strength alone won’t lead to optimal performance—or even full recovery.
How Sensorimotor Repatterning (SMR) Helps
SMR restores motor control by retraining the nervous system through precise manipulation of proprioceptors (sensory input) and acupoints (Somato–Autonomic Reflexes). If you have spent months or even years trying to strengthen "weak" muscles, they are probably already strong but lack the correct motor control to engage efficiently.
What to Expect in Ideal SMR Session Scenarios
✅ Session 1: Testing 108 muscles for motor control dysfunction and restoring proper function while lying down.
✅ Session 2: Reassessing and correcting motor control while standing.
✅ Session 3: Refining motor control in complex, functional movements to enhance real-world performance.
Client Success Stories
Heather: "I saw Colin about a 2-year-old shoulder injury I sustained crashing my bike. I'd been to several different practitioners from Chiro, massage, and physio. Colin healed my shoulder once and for all. My body moves better and faster. I have achieved several personal best triathlon race times since seeing Colin. I highly recommend him."
George: "I first visited Colin after my recovery from hip replacement surgery faltered. Through his incredible knowledge of neuro-muscular systems, he got my recovery back on track and also dealt with the lingering effects of multiple injuries which had occurred during many years of active participation in high-level amateur athletics.
He knows the science, he knows athletes and he is also one of the nicest health professionals you will ever meet. I highly recommend Colin and the services that he provides."
Martin: "I had a serious bike injury approximately 1.5 years ago where I partially tore 2 ligaments in my shoulder. Since then, I have remained with pain in my shoulder, accompanied by a restricted range of motion. Before seeing Colin, I had two steroid injections, which partially worked, and I've seen physiotherapy for 6 months. Given the ongoing pain despite the steroid injection, my surgeon recommended surgery. This was before I met Colin. At our first appointment, Colin asked me only one thing; give him three sessions to try to help me. After only one appointment, the pain that was keeping me up at night completely resolved. After the second appointment, I started noticing an increase in my range of motion, as well as a general feeling of being more "coordinated" or more "fluid." I'm looking forward to the third apt!
Despite my medical knowledge, I don't exactly understand what Colin does, but I know one thing: it works, and it works extremely well. I do not hesitate to recommend him 100%, you will not regret it!"
